Mansfield

I recently graduated from Mansfield and received the Mansfieldian in the mail today and read through it and in the Class Notes found your website and decided to check it out. I have just spent over 3 hours browsing your blogs, pictures, and videos! This is awesome that you guys were able to do this! I will definitely be checking back to see how you are doing and where you are heading next! Take care! And Im so glad to see Mansfield students are doing great things!

Take care and good luck!

Hey Mountaineer!

Megan, thanks for the kind words! It was a lot of work, but we have a great friend who helped us a lot in throwing this whole website together. Since he is so good with computers, and in particular, web designing, he wouldn't let us settle for just a generic blog.

We're trying to update the site back up again. We are home, but we'll have more stories to post for you! Even after we came home, we've got stories to share about our summer visiting.

Hoping all OK

Hello fellow travelers. I hope all is going well. I noticed you haven't had any new updates to your site since Idaho.

So, I'll give you an update on me. Well, I commented on your page several months ago that I was going to take a trip North to Canada in July in my 71 VW Bus, camping all the way, and not using any interstate highways. I made the trip but unfortunately I only made it to Custer, SD. I took my time traveling and just enjoyed the freedom of wandering with no specific plans. I met all kinds of interesting people along the way and found a VW shop in the middle of nowwhere in Nebraska....Talked to the owner and he was very cooool. However, I ran out of vacation days and had to head back home to Texas. I had a blast though.

My girlfriend, Katie, could not make this trip with me, but she is so looking forward to going with me on my road trip next summer. She has enjoyed your many videos and blog entries and wants us to do the same thing.

I took a page out of your book and used short videos to document my adventures for all my family and friends back home. If you get a chance, go to youtube and search "magicbus adventures" Make sure you type magicbus as one word. This should bring up about 6 or 7 of my videos I created. I hope you enjoy. By the way, I liked some of the songs you used on your videos so hope you dont mind but I used them in a couple of mine......

Anyway, Katie and I have missed reading about your adventures and seeing your videos. Give us a shout and let us know you're OK.

Danny and Katie

You guys rock!

Hey Danny and Katie,

We will definitely be checking out your videos. We're so sorry we haven't updated this thing in so long! We have fallen behind, but we're trying to catch up now.

All four of us are home now, and busy with the cross country season. We'll keep updating this more frequently now. We've got a lot of stories still, and a bunch of footage.

I'm sorry your trip didn't go as far as planned, but it seems like you had some cool adventures along the way. Great stuff!

Of course we don't mind that you used the same music. It's not ours, it's for anyone to use! Free music is great for videos!

Take care,

Josh and Kim

Your van inspired me!

Hi!

I am 24 and recently accepted a job in Henrietta NY and I have never even been here before. My original plan was to secure a teaching job for the September and rent an Escape rental van to go across county, I think you guys will love this check it out: http://www.escaperentals.co.nz/. Unfortunately I did not accept a teaching job and my work here in Herietta began immediately.

I was depressed and making the long drive from the Hudson Valley up to my new "home" in Rochester. I was angry because I was not on my own cross country adventure in my own cool tripped out van like I wanted to be. Then suddenly, I saw your green bus! Its like it appeared out of no where! I got so excited and remembered the web address, thinking ot myself I am still going to do that even if it can't be right now! You guys are living proof that it can happen!

I saw you the first week in July heading north on I-90. Yes your bus was struggling a bit up a hill as I passed it. I have been very busy moving in and training for my new job that I haven't gotten a chance to come to the site. Tonight I was blown away to find out you live right here in Henrietta too! What a small crazy world it is!

You seem like amazing people and that definitely way the best wedding dance I ever saw in my life. Cheers to being free spirits! I hope to run into you again someday!

Brooke

Hey, Brooke!

Honk next time you see us! Where in Henrietta are ya? Small world seeing us drive around. The WootWagen is slow on the hills, but it's made it this far!

Thanks for the kind words!

Josh and Kim

Holy cow! Costa Rica?!

I'm amazed that you found us! How did you come across our trip? Either way, I'm glad you did! You really should take to the road. You never know what you'll find, but it'll be an adventure either way!

Thanks, and take care,

Josh and Kim

Kindred Spirits

Hey Guys! My Grams up in Rochester just sent me your article. If you go to www.TheNomadicProject.com you'll see why! It's so exciting to hear about fellow "hippies." We have a daughter now so have settled somewhat, but can't wait to share the country with her! I think if more married couples lived 2 feet apart for a while, the divorce rate would be down. . . you're forced to work everything out!

All the best to you and if you're ever in Nashville TN, look us up!

The Nomads

Thanks, Kristin!

We will certainly look you up if we're near Nashville. I'm not sure when we'll be in Tennessee, but we'll let you know!

HI

I am a 2002 MU graduate and was just looking at the MU site when I read your story. If you make it to the Oregon Coast you have to try some Tillamook Cheese & Ice Cream. Drop me an email and if you guys make it up to the "north woods" we have some great camping here, and I also always have a spare room for MU alum.

Maria

Maria!

I'm sorry the story wasn't out earlier! We are actually heading east right now, and already spent some time in Oregon. Drats!

We will be heading out for our second half of our trip early next year, and may head that way again. Those details are still up in the air. If we are in Oregon, I'll be sure to let you know! Thanks for the message!

bus spotting in montana

My 6 and 4 year old spotted your bus going down the interstate in montana and thought it was soooo cool. so we had to write down your website and check it out. We are from bozeman and went to the eastern half of montana to see family. Your adventures and pictures are neat to see. Good luck to both of you and enjoy your time, what memories and stories to have!!

Hi Lynns!

I'm glad our vehicle got the approval of your children. We actually visited some friends who go to school in Bozeman. It's definitely a cool place. We'll try our best to keep this updated with stories, videos, and photos. We've been finding it tough to get internet recently, but I'm sure we can manage! Thanks for the kind words!

Ideas

How did/do you guys come up with what to do in each state? There are so many cool things you guys do in all your videos. How did you hear about them, how did you find them, and did you plan everything out or is it spur of the moment? Also how much is this trip costing you guys. I would liek to do something like this someday (or a shorter variation).

Thanks,
Nick

Planning...sorta

Hey Nick,

Most of the things we find to do is from Kim researching stuff online. Most of the time, it's either

searching for free things to do, something that is dog friendly, or just a National Park. For Christmas, we got a National Parks Pass that has come in handy a lot. It's about $80, but you get free entrance into all National Parks, so it paid for itself very quickly (especially out west). There are some spur of the moment things that we see just from driving and seeing advertisements. Gordo, Alabama was spur of the moment, along with a bunch of other little random spots in our movies.

As far as cost...well, Kim and I eat really cheap. That helps a bunch. We try and limit meals to $2 each. It's not as terrible as it sounds. We also camp at Wal Marts most of the time since that's free. At least once a week (or once in each state) we actually go to a state or national park and pay for electricity and water hook ups (that ranges from $10-$20). That's about the only time we shower (not too terrible. Maybe?), and we rarely do laundry.

Luckily, we haven't had any serious break downs or setbacks with the bus yet. That's saved us a ton of money. Kim also brought items with her to list on eBay. We haven't done too much work, but it does help pay for some items now and then. The real secret: finding family and friends. We've been so spoiled when we meet up with people we rarely get the chance to see. It's always nice to even switch from bus to couch, and mac and cheese to home cooking.

Hope that helps!

Saw you in LA

While vacationing in LA this past weekend, I saw your bus, took down your website to look you up! You have an awesome life right now! Oh, and I LOVED your wedding dance! Cool site!!!

Hey Mariam!

I'm glad out advertising sticker on the back is working! This vehicle works pretty well to grab people's attention. Well, if you ever come across us again, feel free to stop over and say hi! The pets don't bite, but Kim gets antsy sometimes (watch out!).

We are living quite well right now. No complaints, really. I'm glad you liked the dance! The funniest part is that almost everyone learned it the day before the wedding. It was a blast!

Thanks for checking us out!

Josh

Thanks Bookworm

There are so many buses out here. It stinks knowing that when we go home, we'll have to park the bus in a garage for the winter.

48 or 50?

Hey guys!

We drove across the country and across Canada on our way to Alaska, but we are still way jealous of you guys. Unfortunately we had some time restraints and couldn't even visit a fraction of the places we would have liked to. Are you guys hitting all 50 states or just the 48 contiguous? If you make it to Alaska we would love to see you! We live on the only road into Alaska so we're right on the way unless you take a ferry up from Washington. If you make it in June we have about 22 hours of sunlight! Take care on the road.

Luke, Charity, Wrangell, & Stryder

The states

Well, we are planning on visiting all 50 states. We both coach cross country in the fall, so we plan on being back in NY by late June. Once that season is done, we'll leave to finish the remaining states (25 or so depending on how this first part goes) sometime before spring in 2010. Most of the time we change our plans. When you're on the road, planning doesn't work. You have to let loose and see where you get pulled towards. As far as Alaska and Hawaii, we were probably going to take a ferry or something. Since those two states are so far away, we had that planned for the second trip and not the first. It's cheaper to take a cruise than to ship our bus to Hawaii. Alaska may be the same situation, but I don't know yet.

Green Bus Spotting

Saw you guys on I-12 in Mandeville Louisiana today 3/10/09 at 4pm. The back sticker works because it brought me here and now I can follow your adventures. I pass people on that stretch of Highway everyday and you guys are the first exciting pass I came across.

your adventures

I came accross your Blog...you 2 are awesome. to be young again. I have a 71 yelowbus and to do what you 2 are doing is great...best of luck and enjoy

jeff

Thanks!

 Hey Jeff,

Thanks! We know how lucky we are to be doing something like this, and have been extremely lucky so far on our journey. One time we also owned a yellow bus (but a '76). It caught on fire while Kim was driving one day. So, to combat this we decided to buy another bus. Ha. We couldn't drive anything but an old VW. Maybe we'll cross paths someday!

Folly Pier

Hey Guys,
I saw you at the Pier today and was going to talk to you. You drove off right after you bought that sticker. If you need anything while your on Folly come up and ask for me. I do have a couple of things you might use and I know of some really cool things you need to see while your at the beach. Peace Out!

Folly Beach

Kerry,

We're sorry we missed you! Usually we don't spend a whole lot of time in one area, so we've already headed south! I wish we had checked this earlier. We will probably be back to Folly sometime, but we don't really know when. A schedule doesn't really exist in our traveling too much. Thanks, though!

Josh and Kim

folly pier

Hi Guys!

Anyway safe travels and you know where we are if you pass by again!
