Folly Beach

Episode #9: South Carolina

South Carolina brings beaches, but not always warm weather. Large reptiles and crazy tall trees were just a few things found in this coastal state. Along the way, GBA also finds a group based around VW Buses by accident.

Days 21-22

The night that we spent in Francis Marion National Forest was not quiet. Not long after we decided to pop the top and head to bed, we heard paws pounding the surrounding sand/ground mix that we were parked in. Whatever it was that ran past our bus, it was hauling. I've thrown the ball around with Westy enough to know that this thing was at least twice her size. It may have been quiet outside, but this creature was making some thunder when it hit the ground. Just when Kim was asking me what just ran by, a loud screeching noise was echoing the small campground. Maybe it was a stray cat or some other feline type animal, but it was hissing and it sounded vicious. The next morning we were looking around for prints or fur but couldn't find anything. Staying an extra day at this campsite wasn't exactly in our agenda the next morning. We opted to go to the beach instead.

We weren't planning on being at the pier for very long, and already someone was catching fish. Maybe five minutes later somebody else caught a tiny shark. The first guy who was sitting just next to us that caught the stingray left for a minute to get his two kids some food. He was gone maybe 5 minutes before his line was tugging again, and with another stingray that we told him later had to be at least 5 feet big (more like 1 foot). After lunch we headed back to leave. Once we got to our bus, we saw that a '60 something transporter bus from California was parked right next to us. It was pretty sweet. Just as we were about to
